One of the quickest, most comfortable and healthy ways to get to the old case of Toledo, in the centre of the historic city, is to use the new lifts or escalators that have not been built many years ago to facilitate access. We tell you how to park nearby (and for free) and get to the escalators in Toledo.
Since the year 2000, two ski lifts have been built in Toledo (called escalators by the people of Toledo) that allow easy access to the historic centre from the new neighbourhoods where it is easier to park or arrive (from the high-speed train station or from the bus station)

Mechanical uphill of Paseo de Recaredo
They were the first external escalators to be built in Toledo in 2000. They are located on the Paseo de Recaredo, which runs from the Puerta de Bisagra to the Puerta del Cambrón. An opening in the medieval wall allows access to several stretches of escalators that show us a magnificent view of Toledo, facilitating the ascent to the slope of about 40 meters and leaves us next to the building of the Diputación de Toledo.
Safont Mechanical Rounder
The escalators that start at Toledo’s new tourist bus stop, inaugurated in 2014, have become in just a few years one of the most used infrastructures in the city, above all by the numerous tourists who arrive by AVE to Toledo or to the bus station, given the proximity to these places. In a few minutes in a pleasant walk across the bridge over the Tagus if you arrive by AVE from Madrid you can reach the area known as the Miradero and in 5 minutes more, the Plaza de Zocodover using those escalators. You’ll also get there fast if you park your car for free in one of the two large car parks that have been built very close to this mechanical access (see where to park for free in Toledo?)
Other services in the escalators of Toledo
Please note that in addition to facilitating the ascent by escalators, both lifts have private car parks in the vicinity in which to leave the car under cover (paying) and also the Safont lift has an elevator that facilitates the ascent to the Miradero promenade.
